Yaroomba Beach to help get the most from Sunshine Coast Airport deal
Yaroomba Beach will provide much needed 5 Star accommodation and integrated conference facilities to attract more direct flights to the Coast and boost the region’s international and domestic tourism destination status.
Yaroomba Beach Project Director Evan Aldridge said prudent investments by both Sunshine Coast Council and new commercial partner Palisade Investment Partners in the Sunshine Coast Airport, required the region to provide new hotels and conference facilities for the tourists who will arrive here.
“We wish Palisade Investment Partners the very best as the company commences its 99 year tenure managing the operation and expansion of the Sunshine Coast Airport,” he said.
“It is now imperative for the aviation, agriculture, health and tourism industries to invest in new infrastructure that benefit from the airport upgrade to provide the Sunshine Coast the positive dividend on the great leadership provided by Council in the expansion of the airport.
“As a pillar of the Sunshine Coast economy, the tourism industry, which currently employees tens of thousands of people here on the Coast, is the immediate focus to ensure we have new facilities ready.
“The Sunshine Coast has a broad offering of tourism accommodation for the middle market, but our last 5 Star hotel was developed 28 years ago and no longer holds a 5 Star rating.
“We badly need new investment if we are to meet the needs of an increasingly competitive tourism market and our proposal for the 5 Star Westin Coolum Resort & Spa at Yaroomba Beach, with conference facilities and short-stay serviced apartments, is a key solution to address the current under supply of luxury accommodation.”
Mr Aldridge said the tourism component of Yaroomba Beach would generate 90,000 new visitor nights and overall generate $120 million in new spending each year to the local economy, supporting 360 onsite local jobs.
“The conferences and events sector is a focus for us and the Westin will have the world class conference and event spaces to bring corporate events back to the Coast,” he said.
“Ecotourism is also a priority and we are on track to achieve the highest standard possible of Advanced Ecotourism certification from Ecotourism Australia, for both the the Westin resort and Coastal Discovery Trail.
“Importantly, the Westin will promote the Sunshine Coast as a holiday and business destination through the 110 million member loyalty program of its parent company, Marriott International.”
Mr Aldridge said the tourism assets were supported by a coastal village of new residential beachside community of diverse housing options, shops, cafes, and landscaped parks and pathways.
“The integration of the residential community with the resort provides the infill housing and variety of homes needed for a growing and changing Sunshine Coast population near existing services and amenities,” he said.
