On the 29 June 2018 the Sunshine Coast Council approved the Yaroomba Beach development, which aligns with Council’s key strategic policies of investment in new tourism accommodation, creating local jobs, and achieving world class sustainable outcomes.

Planning is now underway to deliver the first stage of Yaroomba Beach – the 220-room 5 star The Westin Coolum Resort & Spa and conference facilities, serviced apartments and new coastal village, with all of the public amenities that the community can enjoy.

The new coastal village will be a place for locals and visitors to meet, relax, and enjoy great food and boutique shopping.

The 220 room 5 star The Westin Coolum Resort & Spa, and adjacent 132 serviced apartments draw inspiration from nature, to provide a unique Sunshine Coast experience.

  • A destination in itself, the village heart will offer boutique shops, cool cafes and exciting restaurants
  • Over 4 ha of public open and green space all gifted to the Sunshine Coast Council – where you can kick the footy with the kids, have a picnic or enjoy regular arts and cultural events
  • A playground and water play space next to the public park will be a place for your kids to enjoy creative art, imaginative plants, water swirls and sprays
  • The Coastal Discovery Centre and Coastal Discovery Trail will help you explore the region’s history and environment through interactive displays and virtual reality

Yaroomba Beach will add $108 million to the Sunshine Coast regional economy – annually

  • $800 million investment for a much needed tourism and residential development that will contribute significantly to the Sunshine Coast economy
  • It aligns with Sunshine Coast Council’s vision, boosting tourism, sport and leisure, agribusiness and aerospace industries – including the expansion of Sunshine Coast Airport
  • It will create 85,000 new visitor nights on the Sunshine Coast every year
  • The latest technology and flexible event spaces at The Westin Resort will help to bring international standard events and conferences back to the Sunshine Coast
  • As part of The Westin’s parent company, Marriott International, the resort will market the region as a destination to its 110 million loyalty members globally
  • The integrated residential community will increase turnover at local shopping centres and tourism operations

Yaroomba Beach offers the opportunity to live locally, train locally and work locally

  • There will be 360 EFT jobs created onsite at Yaroomba Beach
  • Of this total, 260 EFT jobs will be at The Westin Coolum Resort & Spa in hospitality, landscaping, guest services and maintenance to management and administration
  • Employees of the resort will have access to career progression and structured training with Marriott International, the world’s largest hotel group with operations in 124 countries
  • There will be another 100 EFT onsite jobs in the cafes and shops of the village heart, and in the maintenance of the grounds
  • Yaroomba Beach will support a total 1250 EFT jobs across the community – from tourism operators, retailers and eateries on the coast, to local produce suppliers in the hinterland
  • Yaroomba Beach will also create an average of 350 EFT construction jobs a year for the duration of the build. A Local Industry Participation Plan will ensure local trades and suppliers can maximise their participation
  • We have a training partnership with TAFE QLD East Coast to ensure our local young people are job ready and can work locally

  • The South East Queensland Regional Plan forecasts a 39% increase in the Sunshine Coast population in the 25 years to 2041, requiring 87,000 new dwellings

  • The parklands will be activated with an annual program of arts and cultural events from markets, kids craft and art classes during the day and open air concerts and movies at night

  • Yaroomba Beach will also provide $500,000 funding over 10 years for an indigenous arts program
